The R. R. Smith Center for History and Art needs you!  This is a great “job” for friendly, reliable ambassadors who are happy to welcome the public and help them find their way in the Smith Center and in the town, who can keep the galleries open to anyone interested in the outstanding exhibitions in the art and history galleries, who can help (on occasion) with clerical tasks related to the non-profit organizations headquartered in the building.  And… this job comes with benefits to the “regulars” who can pledge to work two shifts (or more!) every month. Everyone receives an orientation and training.  The “regulars” get:

  • Complimentary memberships and members’ privileges to the Augusta County Historical Society and the Staunton Augusta Art Center
  • Eligibility for the monthly drawing of “regulars” for two free tickets to the American Shakespeare Center’s Blackfriars Playhouse
  • Free parking tokens to cover your shift free
  • Air conditioning all summer long
  • A healthy heart with all those warm feelings one gets from helping non-profit organizations

If you are able to work a shift (9-1 or 1-5, M-F) (10-1, 1-4 Sat.), please call the Smith Center volunteer coordinator Kailee Urban at your earliest convenience.  The volunteer coordinator, by the way, is a volunteer herself!  We are indebted to her because she also works a more-than-full-time job in Charlottesville though she lives in Staunton.  She is super civic minded because she also serves on the board of one of the non-profits headquartered at the Smith Center.  She would greatly appreciate hearing from you to discuss volunteer shifts, orientation, and training.  Kailee would prefer being contacted by e-mail: kailee.urban@gmail.com. Her cell phone after 7pm is: 434-906-7411.
