Researching Your Old House: 101

Please plan to join us next Friday for our February Brown Bag Preservation talk. Highly regarded local historian Katharine Brown will demonstrate property research techniques including:

  • how to follow the steps of title deed research
  • how to locate a property using Sanborn maps to identify changes over the years
  • how to use property tax records to learn more about a property
  • how to learn something about the individuals or families who built the property, or families that have lived there in subsequent years.

Free and open to the public.

Also, mark your calendars for our March 6th Brown Bag as Staunton landscape architect Amy R. Arnold presents “Staunton Neighborhoods: a Town within a Town”.

If you were unable to attend January’s Brown Bag led by Staunton architect Michael Brown on energy savings strategies in historic buildings, you can find his presentation and suggested links in the January 27, 2015 post our Brown Bag News Page.
