Celebrating 40 Years of Preservation Success!

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”  ~Margaret Mead

Forty years ago, a small group of thoughtful, committed Staunton citizens stepped forward to propose a plan of historic preservation and community revitalization.  Their goal was to protect the city’s irreplaceable architectural character from the wrecking ball of urban renewal.

The Staunton we see in 2011 is a testament to the inspiring vision, perseverance, and wisdom of the founders of Historic Staunton Foundation. Today, the city is renowned for its architectural beauty, sense of place, and economic vitality.  The generous support and dedicated leadership of all those who have served HSF’s Board over the past 40 years have been instrumental in making Staunton a national preservation success story.

In October, the Foundation will celebrate “40 Years of Preservation and Rehabilitation” with a series of special events  designed to educate our citizens about the significance of the progress that has been achieved and how this work will continue to impact Staunton’s sense of place as a community and future economic prospects.

Thoughtful, committed citizens are still needed to carry forward the mission of Historic Staunton Foundation.  We call on you to help by becoming a 40th Anniversary Year Sponsor. Indeed, Staunton would be a very different place today without your valuable leadership commitment and many substantial contributions over the years.

Our 40th Anniversary Celebration, the Annual Meeting, and opening of a retrospective exhibit will be on January 22, 2012.  We invite you to join us as we celebrate and recognize those who helped Staunton realize its potential as a livable, culturally rich, historic community that is a great place to call home!
